Under direction, the purpose of the position is to perform skilled mechanical boiler and heating systems work in various maintenance and service tasks.

Employees in this classification function with limited independence and latitude in judgement concerning methods, materials, and priority of assigned work orders. Work areas include, but are not necessarily limited to, servicing boiler and heating systems, responding to emergencies, and preventative maintenance on system components. Essential functions as outlined herein are performed according to the functional areas of assignment. Performs related work as directed.

High school diploma or GED. Journeyman license required. Boiler Repair Operator certifications desired but, not required. Knowledgable and skilled heating and/or boiler system trades experience, demonstrating ability to read and interpret blueprints, architectural drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and project specifications, with ability to fulfill the physical requirements of the work; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Valid drivers license. Team player, show a willingness to work independently and also as a group. Strong desire to create a positive customer service experience. Willingness to work extended hours, out of town and within the parameters of an unpredictable schedule. Ability to learn both mechanically and technically.

  • Performs skilled mechanical domestic and industrial heating and boiler systems trades work in various installation, repair, maintenance and service tasks.
  • Observes and tests malfunctioning systems to determine cause and appropriate corrective action; reads blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams and technical manuals as applicable to new installations or assigned service/repair orders.
  • Performs physically demanding tasks related to installation and repair of boiler systems, i.e. soldering pipes, excavation and trenching, cutting and welding of iron piping, destruction and removal of concrete and asphalt.
  • Performs preventative maintenance tasks according to established schedules; monitors systems functioning for the purpose of recognizing potential problems; addresses such accordingly.
  • Ensures compliance with and adherence to applicable codes, ordinances, building, and safety standards regarding heating and boiler systems installation, maintenance and repair activities.
  • Fills out and maintains works orders and purchase orders for required materials, supplies and equipment.
  • Available for a flexible schedule and out-of-town travel. Schedule will often include extended hours, evenings, weekends, and travel ¬†time.
